This is fine with OpenGroup's Single Unix Specification which allows these functions to use static storage. Unfortunately, glusterfs uses them a lot and assume thread-safety. Since on the one hand the names are easy to guess, and on the other hand there is a race between testing whether the name exists and opening the file, every use of mktemp() is a security risk. The race is avoided by mkstemp(3). The work around is provided by creating hidden files under export directory on solaris hosts only. the hidden files ares maintained in .glusterfs_xattr_inode directory, and all xattr ops on symlink and special files are redirected to respective inodes.
